WordPress is yesterday: websites built to the DLM Digital standard.
We no longer build WordPress sites, and we do not maintain them either. Every new website is coded to a fixed standard: fast loading as the aim, technical SEO on every page and the groundwork that lets ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI place your business correctly.
Talk about a moveDLM Digital no longer builds WordPress websites and does not take on WordPress maintenance. Every new website follows our DLM Digital standard: coded in Next.js, with technical SEO on every page and the groundwork for AI search. This is not a claim that WordPress is bad — it is a statement about what we want to rely on when a website has to bring in enquiries for a business.
This page explains why we decided this, what the standard contains, who is still better off with WordPress and how a move from an existing WordPress site works. How a project runs and what it costs is set out on have a website built.

Why we no longer build WordPress sites
We decided against WordPress because we want to control exactly what a website delivers, and because we do not want to leave our clients a stack of plugins that needs maintaining every year. With WordPress, design, forms, SEO fields and extra functions usually come from themes and extensions by different vendors. Each brings its own code, and each wants updating.
The weak spots are almost never in the WordPress core but in the extensions: Patchstack counted 11,334 new vulnerabilities in the WordPress ecosystem for 2025, 91 per cent of them in plugins. For Google, WordPress is not a disadvantage in itself. For AI search, however, it increasingly matters how much ballast a page sends and how clean its structured data is — and both are easier to control reliably in your own code than through a collection of plugins.
What the DLM Digital standard contains
The standard is a fixed list we work through on every website — not an add-on. It has three parts.
- Technology: Next.js and TypeScript instead of a theme, page builder and plugins. Self-hosted fonts, images delivered at the right size, JavaScript only where a page has to do something. The aim is 100 out of 100 in Google PageSpeed, measured after every major change.
- Google: its own title, description and canonical address on every page, exactly one main heading, structured data (JSON-LD) for the company, services, breadcrumbs and FAQ, and an automatic sitemap.
- AI search: an llms.txt with the key facts, an ai.txt, a WebMCP manifest and a robots.txt that explicitly allows AI crawlers. Your customers’ main questions are answered directly on the page. Nobody can guarantee that an AI assistant will name you; whether it can read you at all, we can.
How much of this goes into your project depends on the package: Start with the technical groundwork, Standard with on-page SEO and basic AI visibility, Complete with full SEO and GEO. How your current site does is shown by the free AI visibility check.
Who is still better off with WordPress
WordPress remains a good choice when a team publishes a great deal and someone in-house is responsible for maintenance. A publisher, an association posting every week or a marketing team with several editors benefits from roles, previews and a media library that have been mature in WordPress for years. Anyone who wants to assemble and run a site without an agency is also often cheaper off with WordPress or a site builder. The trade-offs are compared in headless CMS versus WordPress.
In those cases we are not the right agency, and we say so in the first conversation. If you want a company website that is essentially stable, loads fast, is found on Google and in AI search and needs no plugin upkeep, our standard is the right fit.
Moving from WordPress: how it works
A move is a rebuild to our standard that takes your existing visibility with it. The delicate part is not the new design but the old addresses: pages, posts, PDFs and images that Google knows.
- Record what exists. We collect every old address from the sitemap and our own crawl, including ones missing from any sitemap.
- Carry over and improve content. What works is kept; what is thin or duplicated is merged.
- Redirects. Every old address points by 301 to the matching new page, never wholesale to the home page.
- Test before go-live. All redirects are checked against the finished site until no address leads nowhere.
The new website goes live 2 weeks once all materials are in. If you first want to know whether a move is worth it, start with a website audit.
What a website built to the DLM standard costs
There are three packages: Start from CHF 3,000, Standard from CHF 5,000 and Complete from CHF 10,000, all excl. VAT. The standard — technology, SEO groundwork and AI search groundwork — is in every package; they differ in how much work goes into content and findability. Hosting: free in year one, then CHF 300 a year (domain not included). Maintenance is optional — see website maintenance & hosting.

Frequently asked questions about WordPress and the DLM Digital standard
No. We no longer build new WordPress websites, with or without themes and page builders. Every new website follows our DLM Digital standard: built in Next.js, with technical SEO and the groundwork for AI search from day one. If you specifically want WordPress, a specialist WordPress agency will serve you better.
No — no WordPress maintenance, no plugin updates and no WordPress support. If your existing WordPress site is to be replaced, we rebuild it to our standard and redirect the old addresses properly. We offer maintenance and hosting only for websites we have built ourselves.
No. Google ranks individual pages, not the system behind them. A well-built, well-kept WordPress site can rank well. Problems usually come from heavy themes, page builders, many plugins and missing upkeep. We still decided against WordPress because our own code lets us control exactly what a page delivers, and there is no stack of plugins to maintain.
Our standard for every website: Next.js and TypeScript instead of a theme and plugins; titles, descriptions, canonicals and structured data on every page; a sitemap and a robots.txt that explicitly allows AI crawlers; llms.txt, ai.txt and a WebMCP manifest for AI assistants; direct answers and FAQ on the key pages. For load time we aim for 100 out of 100 in Google PageSpeed. That is an aim, not a guarantee.
Yes, if you want to. For copy and images we set up an editing system on request so your team can work without a developer. If you would rather hand changes over, maintenance costs CHF 100 to 300 a month. Which suits you depends on how often things change.
A move is a rebuild to our standard: Start from CHF 3,000, Standard from CHF 5,000 with on-page SEO and basic AI visibility, Complete from CHF 10,000 with a site plan based on search demand, redirects and migration of existing content. All prices excl. VAT; the binding amount is in the quote. Hosting: free in year one, then CHF 300 a year (domain not included).
The risk exists with every relaunch, whatever the system. We reduce it with a fixed process: every old address is collected, including ones missing from any sitemap, and sent by 301 redirect to the matching new page. This is tested against the finished site before go-live. There is still no guarantee of positions.
No, that is our aim, not a promise. External scripts such as tracking, chat widgets, embedded maps or videos cost points, and some of them matter more to your business than the last point. Our own home page, with its animated particle field, measured 88 to 92 in a local test in September 2026. We show you the measurements for your site rather than promising a number.
