ChatGPT Ads Switzerland.
OpenAI's ad channel has been open in Switzerland since 1 September 2026 — without personalised delivery. We set up accounts in the OpenAI Ads Manager and manage running campaigns. Management from CHF 300 per month, media budget paid separately to OpenAI.
Free first conversationChatGPT Ads are ads that appear below a ChatGPT answer, are labelled "Sponsored", and have been served in Switzerland since 1 September 2026. Switzerland is one of 31 European launch markets. The decisive difference from the US market: there is no personalised delivery here. Ad selection rests on the context of the current conversation, not on a user profile.
This page explains how the channel works, how a campaign is structured, what it demonstrably does not do and who it is not worth it for right now. It deliberately contains no Swiss click prices, no reach figures and no forecast — OpenAI has published none. What is documented is stated with source and date, including the minimum daily budget of CHF 20 when billing in francs. The neighbouring disciplines have their own pages: Google Ads as the established volume channel, conversion tracking as the precondition for any measurement and GEO for organic visibility in AI answers.
What do ChatGPT Ads not do?
The channel has hard, nameable limits — and a few weeks after the Swiss launch on 1 September 2026, the most important one is the lack of data. We put this section first on purpose, because it says more about the decision than any feature list.
- No reliable Swiss click prices. As of 11 October 2026 there are no published Swiss CPC, CPM or oCPC values. Only the budget floor is documented: CHF 20 per campaign per day when billing in francs. Anyone quoting you a franc range for the click price is guessing. US values cannot be converted: they come from a market with personalised delivery.
- No keyword targeting. Context hints are a relevance signal, not a switch. You cannot book delivery for a specific search term, set match types or exclude terms as usual.
- No personalisation in Switzerland. No interest audiences, no remarketing, no lookalikes. OpenAI's campaign guidance also advises against custom audiences for campaigns targeting Switzerland.
- No plannable volume. Ads only reach the Free and Go plans. How large that group is in Switzerland, OpenAI does not say, and we give no number.
- No replacement for Google Ads. Existing, measurable search demand is collected there — with keyword control, finer geo-targeting and years of experience. ChatGPT Ads are an addition with an open outcome.
- No influence on the answer itself. According to OpenAI, ad selection and answer generation run separately; the ad sits below the answer, not in it. Anyone promising that booked ads improve organic mentions in AI answers is speculating. That is the job of GEO.
What applies in Switzerland since 1 September 2026?
OpenAI opened the ad channel in Switzerland on 1 September 2026, together with 30 other European markets: the 27 EU states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Switzerland is a regular launch market, not a special case.
The one point that steers a Swiss budget differently from an American one: personalised advertising is not available in the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Only signals from the current session and broad context are used — the topic of the conversation, approximate location, device type, time of day and language. Past chats, saved memories and ad history are explicitly not used.
In practice that means three things. There is no audience you could define or build. The weight shifts to creative, context hints and landing page: here they are not just conversion elements but the only steering left. And structures from the US market built on behavioural data do not transfer cleanly.
Nothing has changed since launch: as of 11 October 2026 the OpenAI Help Center still states that personalised ads are not available in the EEA and Switzerland for now. A later phase with explicit consent has been announced, without a date and without a commitment that Switzerland will be served at the same time as the EEA.
Which figures on ChatGPT Ads are documented?
Only a few figures are documented: the minimum daily budget of CHF 20 when billing in francs, the daily budget rules, self-service availability for Switzerland and the absence of personalised delivery. For click prices, impression prices, click-through rates and reach in Switzerland, OpenAI had published nothing as of 11 October 2026.
- Documented: minimum daily budget CHF 20 per campaign when billing in francs, EUR 15 in euros (OpenAI Help Center, "Create Campaigns for ChatGPT Ads"). Daily budget as a seven-day average, at most twice per day and seven times per week ("Daily Budgets"). Switzerland on the self-service country list ("Ads Manager Availability"). No personalised delivery; ads only for Free and Go ("Ads in ChatGPT"). All retrieved 11 October 2026.
- US only: a recommended starting bid of 3 to 5 US dollars per click. It comes from a market with personalised delivery; converted into francs it is an assumption, not information.
- Not published: Swiss CPC, CPM, CTR and reach of the Free and Go plans. We do not fill these gaps with estimates.
For your planning this gives a simple calculation. The minimum of CHF 20 per campaign per day comes to roughly CHF 600 of media budget a month, paid directly to OpenAI. Our management from CHF 300 per month comes on top; the media budget is never included in it.
How is a ChatGPT Ads campaign structured?
Campaigns are booked in the OpenAI Ads Manager, either through OpenAI's ads solutions team with agency partners or via self-service, which lists Switzerland. What counts is the country chosen for the business when the ad account is created. Billing country and currency are fixed at setup; for a Swiss company an account in francs is usually the obvious choice.
The Ads Manager has three campaign objectives. Reach is billed per CPM, Clicks per CPC and Conversions per oCPC: delivery is optimised for one conversion event, but billing is still per valid click, not per conversion. One standard event per campaign is currently supported.
Targeting runs through context hints at ad group level, alongside the conversation context, the landing page content and the ad text. Geographic control covers country, region and DMA; finer targeting is not documented.
Measurement offers two routes that can be combined: the OpenAI pixel in the browser and the server-side Conversions API. Deduplication uses the same pixel ID, event_name and event ID. Click attribution depends on an opaque parameter called "oppref" appended to the landing page URL; the pixel reads it automatically, with the Conversions API you capture and send it yourself. View-through conversions appear as a separate metric and are not included in the conversion total.
Who is the channel worth it for right now?
The channel is worth it today for companies that have exhausted their existing channels and have budget left for a result with an open outcome. Specifically: your Google Ads campaigns run cleanly and cannot sensibly be expanded, conversion tracking is in place, your landing page works on its own, and your offer needs enough explanation that people research it in a chat.
We advise against it in five cases: a tight budget while Google Ads still has headroom; no working conversion tracking; a need for plannable volume in the short term; hard CPA or ROAS targets; and heavily regulated sectors where the ad policy has not been checked. One more case is often missed: if your customers mainly use Business or Enterprise accounts, they see no ads at all. For organic visibility in the same systems, GEO is the better lever.
How does DLM Digital work on ChatGPT Ads?
We have access to the OpenAI Ads Manager, set up accounts and manage running campaigns. We do not claim reliable long-term Swiss data on this channel; nobody has it, the channel has only been open here since 1 September 2026.
The work has five steps. Setup: Ads Manager account, billing, policy check for your category, choice of objective. Tracking: OpenAI pixel and, where needed, the Conversions API including "oppref". Landing page: its content feeds into relevance, so it is planned alongside. Measurement: one standard conversion event per campaign, view-through and click-through read separately. Report: monthly, with Ads Manager figures, a reconciliation with your analytics and a note on changes to the channel.
On cost: our management starts at CHF 300 per month. The media budget is not included and is paid separately and directly to OpenAI; the floor is CHF 20 per campaign per day for an account billed in francs. We start small, measure, and decide after the first weeks with figures from your own account. If they argue against continuing, we say so.

Frequently asked questions about ChatGPT Ads in Switzerland
The cost has two separate parts. First, the media budget, which you pay directly to OpenAI. Only its floor is documented: according to the OpenAI Help Center, the minimum daily budget for an ad account billed in Swiss francs is CHF 20 per campaign (as of 11 October 2026). There are no reliable Swiss click prices: OpenAI publishes no Swiss CPC, CPM or CTR figures, and the channel has only been open here since 1 September 2026. A recommended starting maximum bid of 3 to 5 US dollars for click campaigns is known from the US market; it applies to the US and is not a basis for Swiss calculations. Second, our management: it starts at CHF 300 per month, and the media budget is never included. How far above the minimum your media budget should sit, we decide together after the first weeks, using figures from your own account.
Yes, and it depends on the billing currency of your ad account, not on the target country. If the account bills in Swiss francs, the minimum daily budget according to the OpenAI Help Center is CHF 20 per campaign (article "Create Campaigns for ChatGPT Ads", retrieved 11 October 2026); in euros it is EUR 15. The daily budget is an average over seven days: on a single day up to twice the amount can be spent, over seven days at most seven times. A campaign running a whole month at the minimum comes to roughly CHF 600 of media budget. That is the platform's technical floor, not a recommendation for a meaningful test, and it comes on top of management from CHF 300 per month.
Yes. Switzerland is on the country list of OpenAI's self-service Ads Manager (Help Center article "Ads Manager Availability", retrieved 11 October 2026). What counts is the country chosen for the business when the ad account is created, not the country of your ChatGPT login. So an account can be opened without an agency. The work afterwards lies in tracking, context hints, ad copy and the landing page — that is what our management from CHF 300 per month covers, with the media budget paid separately to OpenAI.
Only some of them. Ads are shown only to users on the Free and Go plans; Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu stay ad-free, as do accounts identified as under 18 and temporary chats. OpenAI does not publish how large the ad-exposed group in Switzerland is, and we give no number for it. If your audience mainly uses company accounts with Business or Enterprise licences, the channel is structurally weak for you — we say so before setup, not after.
Because personalised advertising is not available in the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Ads are selected only from signals in the current session and broad context: the topic of the conversation, approximate location, device type, time of day and language. Past chats, saved memories and ad history are explicitly not used. There are therefore no interest, remarketing or lookalike audiences to fall back on. All steering rests on the conversation context, the context hints, the creative and the landing page. A later phase with explicit consent has been announced without a timetable; we give no date for it.
Context hints are set at ad group level and describe in prose the conversations, topics and needs your offer is relevant to. They are explicitly not exact-match keywords, not audience rules and no guarantee that your ad appears for particular words. Alongside the hints, the conversation context, the content of your landing page and the ad's title and text feed into the relevance assessment; placement results from that relevance combined with your bid. Anyone coming from Google Ads has to rethink: there is no search term list, no match types and no negative keywords in the usual sense.
No, and we would advise against moving budget out of a working Google Ads campaign. Google Ads offers keyword control, negative keywords, fine geo-targeting, audience lists and years of campaign history. In Switzerland ChatGPT Ads offer none of that: no keywords, no personalisation, geographic control only by country, region and DMA, and no reliable data from this market. The channel makes sense as an additional, clearly limited line next to an existing setup — not as a replacement.
We have access to the OpenAI Ads Manager, set up accounts and manage running campaigns. What we do not have — and what nobody has today — is reliable long-term Swiss data on this channel: it has only been open here since 1 September 2026. Any agency presenting results, references or benchmarks from its own Swiss ChatGPT Ads engagements today does not have them from this channel. What does transfer is the work that tips the balance: campaign management from Google Ads, clean conversion tracking via pixel and server-side interfaces, and the writing discipline from GEO work.
Is the channel worth it for your company?
We look at your existing campaigns and tracking and tell you honestly whether ChatGPT Ads are the right step now — or whether your budget does more elsewhere. Management from CHF 300 per month; the media budget is paid directly to OpenAI and never included.
