Web design in St. Gallen.
A website that belongs to you after launch — in day-to-day use too. New references, open vacancies and quote requests go through a tool your own team operates, instead of through a ticket at an agency outside Eastern Switzerland.
Request a free design conceptWeb design for St. Gallen means this at DLM Digital: an individually designed and coded site between CHF 3,000 and CHF 25,000, where the content that changes all the time is maintained by your business itself. Our studio is at Gustav-Maurer-Strasse 23 in 8702 Zollikon ZH. We have no office in St. Gallen. We serve Eastern Switzerland projects remotely — and build them deliberately so that you do not need us for every small change after launch.
This page explains why a St. Gallen website has to evidence more today than it used to, which content suits in-house maintenance and which does not, which two Eastern Switzerland projects we can show, and when you are better off hiring an agency in the city. Ongoing search work is a separate service and is described on SEO agency St. Gallen.
Why a St. Gallen website has to evidence more today
St. Gallen grows through people moving in, and newcomers do not know your business from the neighbourhood — they check it online. At the end of 2025 the city had 83,843 residents, 679 more than a year earlier. The city itself states that the increase rests mainly on continued immigration from EU countries. If you have recently moved here yourself, you know the effect: the most important sales channel of many Eastern Swiss SMEs — a recommendation from a neighbour, a club member or a relative who once hired someone — simply is not available to you.
A second figure adds to this. For 2024 the city reports 86,259 jobs — more than it has residents. A large share of the people who work in St. Gallen therefore live outside it. Somebody looking for a job with you, or searching over lunch for a tradesperson for their flat in a neighbouring municipality, also sees your business on a screen first.
For the website this has a very concrete consequence. It has to answer the questions a conversation in the neighbourhood used to answer. What did you last build, repair or advise on? Who works for you? How far do you travel? And is the information current? The last question is the delicate one, because a reference page showing projects from four years ago answers it with no.
A website that stays current without an agency
Most business websites do not go stale because nobody has new content, but because every change needs a request to the agency. A finished project is photographed, the images land in an inbox, the quote for adding them arrives two weeks later — and at some point nobody sends pictures any more. With an agency based outside Eastern Switzerland, that bottleneck tends to grow rather than shrink.
So we turn it round. The content that changes continuously gets its own management tool built for exactly that purpose: few fields, clear categories, one button to publish. Typically this covers:
- References and projects with images, location, service and a short description — the gallery on the site filters them automatically.
- Vacancies and apprenticeships, which you publish and take down as soon as they are filled.
- News such as company holidays, changed opening hours or a new offer.
- Team members with name, role and photo, so the team page does not show people who left long ago.
What does not belong in self-maintenance is the page structure, the navigation, new page types and anything that affects loading speed or findability. Those parts stay fixed on purpose, so that the site still works after three years of in-house editing the way it did on day one. How those fixed parts are priced is set out under web design and prices.
Two Eastern Switzerland projects we can evidence
We have two clients in Eastern Switzerland and none in the city of St. Gallen itself. We say so here because at this point agencies like to speak of "numerous projects in the region". Both projects, however, show exactly the way of working this page is about.
Kigips GmbH is a plastering and facade company from Gossau SG, the fourth-largest town in the canton, between St. Gallen and Wil. The company has existed since 2004 and works in Eastern Switzerland, Zurich and Thurgau. We redesigned the site and developed a custom reference manager with login: Kigips adds new projects with images, description and category and publishes them straight away; on the site they appear with a category filter and lightbox. A quote form accepts plans and photos as file uploads.
Karo Kanaltechnik GmbH from Frauenfeld TG cleans, inspects and renovates pipes and runs a round-the-clock emergency service. The website includes an English version, service pages, a multi-step price and enquiry calculator, a public price page, a glossary, knowledge articles and location pages for the cantons of Zurich, Thurgau, St. Gallen and Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Alongside it we built the business software: client management and scheduling, quotes that clients accept online, jobs, invoices with Swiss QR code and dunning, a technician day view with time tracking and job reports, and a client portal with documents per property.
We quote no figures on enquiries or revenue for either project. What can be evidenced is what was built — and you can look at that on both companies' own websites. Further projects from the Zurich region are listed under our work.
How a project runs at a distance
For us, remote does not mean "less contact". It means every step is organised so that nobody has to get in a car to make a decision. The process has four stages:
- Opening call by video. We clarify who uses the site, which content changes and who in your business will maintain it. We ask that last question earlier than others do, because it shapes the build.
- Free design concept within 48 hours. A designed draft of the home page, without obligation.
- Build with a preview URL. You see the current state in the browser at any time and comment directly on it. You test the tool for references or vacancies with real content before launch.
- Introduction and handover. A video training session for the people who will edit, written instructions, and handover of code and credentials. The site runs on Next.js and belongs to you afterwards, with no builder subscription.
The price lies between CHF 3,000 and CHF 25,000. A dedicated tool for changing content moves the figure upwards, but over the years it saves the cost of every update. Our project calculator gives a first estimate for your case in two minutes.
When an agency in St. Gallen is the better choice
Four cases in which we would advise you against working with us:
- You want regular workshops at your premises. If in-person sessions are meant to be part of the service, an agency in St. Gallen or the Rhine Valley is more practical. We do not travel to Eastern Switzerland for every meeting.
- Nobody in the business will maintain content. Then the core of this page loses its point, and a simpler, almost static site is the more honest solution — we are happy to build it, but it needs no management tool.
- Your budget is below CHF 3,000. We build nothing below that. In that position a well-kept Google Business Profile with current photos often achieves more than half a website.
- Your current site is technically sound and only the content is old. Then a website audit from CHF 1,500 is worth doing before a rebuild, to show whether a revision is enough.
If what you mainly want is to be found more often in Eastern Switzerland and the site itself works, the topic is not web design but ongoing visibility, which is what our local SEO engagements are for.

Frequently asked questions about web design in St. Gallen
Our range is CHF 3,000 to CHF 25,000. Where a St. Gallen project lands within it depends above all on how much you want to maintain yourself later. A lean site that rarely changes sits at the lower end. As soon as references, vacancies, news or team members are to run through a management tool built for your business, development work is added — but afterwards there is no agency invoice for every small change. We name the binding figure once it is clear which content you will run yourself and which stays fixed.
Yes, provided the tool is built for exactly that job rather than being a general system with a hundred menu items. At Kigips, a plastering company in Gossau SG, it works like this: log in, create a project, upload images, choose a category, write a few sentences, publish. The website shows the project immediately with a category filter and image gallery. We run the introduction by video and add written instructions. Anyone who can send a photo from a smartphone will manage.
No. Our only location is Gustav-Maurer-Strasse 23 in 8702 Zollikon ZH, and we do not work on site in St. Gallen. St. Gallen projects run through video calls, a preview URL that is reachable from the first working day, and short approval loops by email. That is precisely why we put so much weight on you being able to run your site after launch: an agency that sits far away should not be the bottleneck for every new vacancy or finished project.
Two, both verifiable. Kigips GmbH, a plastering and facade company from Gossau SG, for which we built a redesign with its own reference manager. And Karo Kanaltechnik GmbH from Frauenfeld TG, whose website includes location pages for the cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Ausserrhoden, and for which we also developed the business software. We have no client project from the city of St. Gallen itself. Both projects are documented under our work.
For project and site pictures, shots taken by your own people are often enough, as long as they are taken in daylight and held straight; we send a short checklist in advance. For team and premises photography we recommend a photographer from the region whom you commission directly. We supply a shot list with formats and subjects so the images fit the site without a reshoot. We only use stock images where nothing of your own is possible.
The foundations are part of the web design: clean page structure, fast loading, structured data, separate pages for core services. Ongoing work on the Google Business Profile, content and rankings is a separate service, from CHF 300 a month for local SEO or from CHF 800 a month as a full-service engagement. Whether you need it depends on how many of your enquiries should come through search. For many businesses the website plus a well-kept profile is enough to start with.
