Social Media Marketing.
Social media marketing is the use of platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube to build brand awareness, grow a community and win customers — through your own posts (organic) and through paid ads (social ads).
Social Media Marketing — Explained in Detail
Social media marketing has two sides. The organic side covers your own posts, stories, videos and exchanges in the comments. It costs no ad budget but a lot of time, and its reach has fallen sharply in recent years because the platforms show posts from companies less often. The paid side covers ads, such as Meta Ads or LinkedIn Ads. It delivers predictable reach but ends with the budget.
The choice of platform depends on the audience, not on the trend. Instagram suits visual offers such as restaurants, fashion, interiors and trades with visible results. LinkedIn is the channel for B2B, recruitment and professional expertise. TikTok and YouTube Shorts reach younger audiences with short videos. In Switzerland, Facebook is relevant mainly for older audiences and local groups.
Social media tends to work in the early phase of the customer journey: people discover a company, remember it and later search for it specifically. That is why direct enquiries from social media are often low, while brand searches and direct visits rise. Anyone who looks only at clicks and enquiries from social media underestimates the channel; anyone who looks only at likes overestimates it.
An open note on our role: DLM Digital does not provide ongoing community management for clients and has no named reference with figures for social media marketing. We advise on the choice of channel, connect social ads with clean tracking and build the website on which attention turns into an enquiry.
Example: a realistic social media plan for an SME
Suppose a roofing business wants to become better known as an employer. Instead of starting on five platforms at once, it concentrates on Instagram and LinkedIn. Once a week a short video from a building site appears, once a month a portrait of an employee. The content is shot on a phone directly on site, and a fixed time slot each week is reserved for it.
What is measured is not the number of likes but the number of applications and enquiries that mention social media. A small campaign can add paid reach for job ads. Which channels make sense for your goals is something we discuss in our digital marketing consulting; for B2B, see LinkedIn Marketing Agency.

The one where your target audience is actually active and where your offer can be shown well. For B2B that is usually LinkedIn, for visual consumer offers Instagram, for younger audiences TikTok. Better one platform done consistently than three done half-heartedly.
As often as is possible at consistent quality. One or two good posts a week are more realistic and more effective for many SMEs than daily posts that peter out after three weeks.
Sometimes, but often indirectly. Many people discover a company on social media and later search for it on Google or visit the website directly. This effect is hard to measure, but it is real.
