People Also Ask.

People Also Ask (called 'Ähnliche Fragen' in German-language Google search) is an expandable block in the search results that shows related questions about the search query. Each question opens a short answer with a link to the source. The block reveals which follow-up questions people ask and offers an additional way for a website to become visible.

People Also Ask — Explained in Detail

For many search queries, Google shows a block headed 'People also ask' between the organic results. It usually contains four questions related to the original search. Clicking on a question expands a short answer taken from a website, together with the link and title of the source. At the same time Google loads further questions, so that the block can be extended again and again.

The answers in the block work much like featured snippets: Google selects a passage from a page that answers the question directly, often a paragraph, a list or a table. A website can therefore appear for a question even if it is not on the first page of the normal results. Click numbers from the block are usually low, but visibility as a source is valuable.

For research, the block is one of the best free sources. It shows, in the searchers' own language, which questions follow the first term: someone searching for 'heat pump' sees questions about cost, noise, subsidies and lifespan. These questions are suitable as subheadings and FAQ entries, very much in the spirit of W questions. Since the questions vary by query and region, it is worth looking at several related searches.

The block is closely related to what AI systems do. AI Overviews and AI search engines also break a query down into sub-questions and answer them from suitable passages. Content that appears as a source in 'People also ask' is therefore often a good candidate for AI answers too: it answers a question clearly, concisely and in a way that is understandable on its own.

How content appears in the block

Phrase a question as a subheading the way people ask it. Answer it directly below in one to three sentences, without an introduction. Then add details, examples and exceptions. For processes or comparisons, numbered lists and tables help, which Google likes to adopt. The page must be indexed and already have a certain relevance for the topic.

There is no guarantee; Google chooses the source itself and changes it frequently. FAQ markup with structured data is not a prerequisite; what matters is the visible text.

Example: questions about a bathroom renovation

A plumbing company searches for 'bathroom renovation Zurich' and notes the questions in the block: How long does a bathroom renovation take? What does a new bathroom cost? Do you need a permit for a bathroom renovation? Can you stay in the flat during the renovation? None of these questions is answered on its own service page.

The company adds four sections to the page with exactly these questions and direct, honest answers, including a price range with the main cost drivers. This makes the page more complete, for Google and for customers alike. How we build content for question boxes and AI answers is described on the page GEO Agency Switzerland; implementation on service pages is part of SEO optimisation in Zurich.

Frequently Asked Questions About People Also Ask

A featured snippet answers the original search query in a highlighted box above the results. People Also Ask shows several related questions whose answers only appear when expanded. Both take their answers from passages on websites.

Usually few, because the answer is visible directly in the block. The value lies more in visibility as a source and in the questions themselves, which show what customers want to know.

Search for your main terms, expand a few questions so that Google loads more, and note the recurring questions. They are suitable as subheadings, FAQ entries or, where there is a lot of demand of their own, as a separate page.
