Rich Snippet (Rich Result).
A rich snippet is a search result enriched with extra information — star ratings, prices, availability or FAQs. It is generated from structured data (schema markup) and stands out on the results page far more than an ordinary listing.
Rich Snippet (Rich Result) — Explained in Detail
A rich snippet — Google officially calls it a rich result — is a search listing that shows extra visual information beyond the usual title, description and URL. Familiar examples are the golden star ratings on products and recipes, price and availability data, event dates, cooking times, and expandable FAQ questions displayed straight inside the result. Each type has its own eligibility rules, and Google documents every one of them publicly.
The foundation is structured data (Schema.org, usually as JSON-LD). You use it to describe a page's content in a machine-readable way — as a product with a price and a rating, as a recipe, as a local business, or as an FAQ. Google then decides whether and how to render that information as a rich snippet. The display is never guaranteed, but correct markup is the precondition; without it, the option does not exist at all.
The benefit is attention. A listing with stars, prices or FAQs takes up more space and pulls the eye more strongly, which can raise the click rate even without a better ranking position. One rule matters above all: only mark up content that genuinely appears on the page. Invented or misleading markup can trigger a manual action, and Google has repeatedly tightened enforcement around review and FAQ markup in particular.
An example: an online shop marks up its product pages with Product schema including price, availability and an aggregate rating. In the search results, stars and price then appear directly beneath the title — the listing stands out and tends to win more clicks than the plain snippets around it. Before publishing, run the page through the Rich Results Test; it shows precisely which type Google recognises and which required fields are still missing.

Schema MarkupFrequently Asked Questions About Rich Snippet (Rich Result)
A rich snippet is a regular organic listing enriched with extra information such as stars, price or FAQs through structured data. A featured snippet is a highlighted answer box at the very top — 'position zero' — which Google pulls from a page to answer a question directly. The first depends on your markup; the second is Google's own editorial choice based on your content.
By marking up the relevant content with the appropriate schema (JSON-LD) — Product, Recipe, Event, FAQPage or LocalBusiness — and describing only information that genuinely exists on the page. Whether Google actually displays a rich snippet is its own decision and is never guaranteed. The Rich Results Test lets you check that the markup is parsed correctly before you publish.
